Inmotion Hosting Review – Best Hosting 2022

inmotion review

In Motion Hosting is an established provider with 20 years of service. However, it’s not one of the hosts you’d often see heavily marketed on YouTube or other advertising channels. It doesn’t mean it’s bankrupt.

Over the past year, I’ve noticed some changes with InMotion Hosting. He introduced a new look to their website, changed some of their plans, and expanded to new audiences.

You see, InMotion Hosting has always been more of an enterprise solution with plenty of VPS and dedicated hosting options. It wasn’t cheap, but people chose it for its reliability. Self-managed data centers are definitely what keep this provider in demand.

But the ever-popular shared hosting has taken a back seat. So has it changed its mindset, and is it ready to compete with the giants of the shared hosting market?

So I bought a package and went on a mission to determine if In Motion could be a real contender among the major shared hosting providers.

Pros and Cons of In Motion Hosting

 Pros

  • Fast Page Loading Time
  • Very Stable and Reliable Host
  • 90 Day Money Back Guarantee
  • BoldGrid Website Builder for WordPress

 Cons

  • Servers are only located in the States
  • Prices above average
  • Automated backups are chargeable

In Motion Hosting Pricing

In Motion Hosting Pricing starts at $2.29/month for the cheapest shared hosting option. It also offers WordPress plans to start at $4.99/month and more advanced options like VPS ($17.99/month), Reseller Hosting ($15.39/month), and Dedicated Servers ($99 $.99/month). Certainly not the cheapest option you can get, but nothing particularly expensive.

Hosting Type Best for Shared Hosting ($2.29/month) #1 choice for most small to medium-sized websites.
Managed Hosting WordPress  ($4.99 per month) Better performance, with less users on a server, for a still affordable price.
VPS ($17.99/month) Improved performance and security for online stores and high-traffic sites.
Reseller Hosting ($15.39/month) Agencies or web developers/designers who want to resell web hosting services.
Dedicated Server Hosting ($99.99/month) The most advanced option with the highest level of customization for businesses.

In Motion Hosting’s prices seem to be average or even more expensive than other providers. Shared hosting is affordable in range, while VPS and dedicated plans are at the same industry-standard price level.

However, In Motion’s most popular web hosting service remains shared hosting, especially the Lite plan. Lite puts In Motion in a new league of affordable yet high-quality hosting with Dream Host or Blue host.

Without Lite, InMotion Hosting is expensive. You can combine it with providers such as SiteGround and A2 Hosting, offering premium hosting.

Anyway, all InMotion Hosting shared plans come with a free SSL certificate, security suite, free email accounts, and unlimited bandwidth. All plans besides Lite also include a free domain.

  • Core ($2.29 per month):

You get two websites, 100 GB of SSD storage, and ten email accounts. This plan is suitable for a small personal blog website or first-time website with that in mind.

  • Launch ($4.99 per month):

With this plan, you can connect unlimited sites, NVMe SSD storage, and including email accounts. It also includes a free domain. Therefore, it will be the best solution for a small to medium-sized blog or a small business website.

  • Power ($4.99 per month):

Here you can connect unlimited websites, get unlimited NVMe SSD storage and email accounts, plus caching and a free domain. This plan will be best used for small and medium business websites.

  •  Pro ($12.99/month):

Includes unlimited websites, included NVMe SSD storage, email accounts, caching, free domain, and 99.99% uptime guarantee SLA. For this reason, it will be very beneficial for a popular blog or a small e-commerce site.

Hosting Management: Is InMotion Hosting site easy to use?

When the thing comes to ease of use, the InMotion Hosting site is exceptional. Uses a native Account Management Panel (AMP) and cPanel to simplify the user experience. However, these two elements can sometimes seem contradictory. Also, for a better experience, a few UX choices could be improved.

In any case, the two control panels are well structured and easy to use. Keep in mind that they aren’t quite the same while they look alike. From this time on, every time you log into your account, you will be directed to the native AMP. Here’s what it looks like:

What does it remind me of?

blankYou might have guessed that InMotion Hosting’s native AMP is quite similar to cPanel. But it’s not cPanel yet, and you can access it by clicking the orange “cPanel” button:

As you can notice, InMotion has put a custom skin on cPanel to blend in perfectly in the interface. But that’s where the UX issues come in. AMP should be used for account management. Usually, these are things like billing, domains, account details, etc.

However, InMotion Hosting introduced a few hosting management features into AMP. So you can not only easily access cPanel from it and find some of the cPanel modules like Softaculous, Email Management, or SSL.

Do you say practical?

It might be, but some of the things you would typically go to cPanel for are now only available from AMP. This threw me when I wanted to enable my SSL.

Usually, SSL is automatically enabled via cPanel. But mine was “self-signed.” So I searched in cPanel but couldn’t find any settings related to SSL.

When I contacted support directly, they redirected me to AMP because their SSL tools were. Since then, I’ve had no problems activating it.

Either way, a few UX issues won’t make In Motion Hosting much less intuitive. cPanel is still a standard control panel template in the hosting industry, making installing WordPress or creating an email account easy.

 In Motion Hosting for Business

In Motion is known as a business-oriented hosting provider. The provider offers powerful and resource-rich VPS and dedicated hosting plans if shared hosting solutions aren’t enough.

 VPS Hosting

If your website has made it past shared hosting, a slightly more advanced VPS is the best next step. In Motion Hosting offers you with both managed and unmanaged VPS options facilities, with the latter for a price of $5/month. However, much of the most popular and accessible managed option is driven by pricing starting at $17.99/month.

Managed VPS means you get benefits like server management, cPanel, free data, website migration options, and accessible server or website setup already included in your plans.

All InMotion plans include hosting features such as free SSL certificate, unlimited sites, dedicated IP address, free website transfers, cPanel, web hosting master, security configurations, and server configuration.

Actual resources now range from 2 to 8 CPUs, 2 to 8 GB of RAM, 45 to 140 GB of SSD storage, and 4 to 7 TB of bandwidth. Knowing that all resources are dedicated only to you is not a bad offer.

Another thing to note, since VPS offers more power than shared hosting, it’s only natural that the performance is also significantly better. After testing InMotion’s VPS hosting plan for over two weeks, my site maintained perfect 100% uptime and demonstrated a fast average response time of 585ms. On an empty server! So imagine how fast it can be with a few optimizations in place.

Overall, InMotion Hosting’s VPS plans are robust, easy to manage, and resourceful. They earn InMotion a place among the best VPS hosting providers. Suppose you are looking to run an online store or a more significant site with medium to heavy traffic. In that case, this solution offers nearly dedicated server-level resources for a lower price.

Performance: Is InMotion Hosting fast?

Business users have always noticed InMotion Hosting by promising exceptional performance. To find out if this is true, I performed extensive testing. The provider has managed to prove its reliability and speed. It also easily handled quite a lot of site traffic. InMotion’s shared plans seem to be quite powerful and are best suited for popular blogs or small to medium-sized websites.

 Is InMotion Hosting secure?

InMotion has taken many steps to make the site as secure as possible when it comes to security. It includes a “Security Suite” on all its floors. The suite has free SSL, hack, and malware protection; unfortunately, it costs an extra $24 per year.

blankYou can find all security-related tools in the Security section of cPanel.

  • Free SSL is important, and most web hosting providers now offer it free. Nothing special here. Encrypt all server visitor communications so no third parties can access sensitive data. It also gives your website that domain name-based security lock.
  • InMotion Hack and Malware Protection cannot be seen by cPanel. This is an internal server security measure we have no control over, so we must take the provider’s word for it.
  • The ModSecurity module option can be enabled and disabled by choice from the cPanel. A web application firewall filters traffic detects, and prevents malicious attacks on your website. Helping it is pretty much standard.

  • DDoS protection is provided by Corero, which is not found in cPanel. However, it is an automatic real-time DDoS protection that detects and prevents your server from being overwhelmed by the number of malicious requests. It is automatically activated and always active. You don’t have to do anything to start it yourself.
  • Although InMotion Hosting doesn’t point it out, TwoFactor Authentication is also available in cPanel, and I highly recommend using it. It will protect your hosting account from hacking by adding a second level of security, a code known only to you. Registration Entering with a simple password is no longer enough.
  • InMotion has automatic saves available. However, this feature has an additional cost of $24 per year. So if you want your site to be backed up and protected in the event of a malfunction or bug, this will be an additional cost to take into account.
